It’s Kaylyn here! First off, I just want to thank you so much for your endless support! I couldn’t do any of this without wonderful people like you believing in me and listening and sharing my music. I’ve been on such an incredible journey to get to where I am today, and I’d love to share my story with you! It all began when I couldn’t stop singing.
Most people ask me when I started singing and my answer is usually, “I don’t remember.” It goes that far back! My parents say I started before I could even talk which is crazy! All I know is that it’s always been a part of me—like someone wrote it in my DNA and created me with a purpose to sing. Singing and performing have always been my two passions. My first performance was for my church when I was four years old and I’ve been doing it ever since! My longtime friend and mentor, Clint Whitney, was the worship leader at my church and encouraged me to go onstage and sing in the first place. I started playing the piano when I was eight but I didn’t discover my love for the guitar (which, by the way, Clint taught me how to play over Skype) or writing songs until the summer after I graduated high school; I took a huge leap of faith and began pursuing a full-time career in music and performance. What led me to make this decision you may ask? Well, that’s a wonderful question!
For years, my mentor, Clint, had been telling me that I needed to go see Tom Jackson, a live music producer, so finally in the fall of 2015—my senior year of high school—I signed up for the Tom Jackson Onstage Success Boot Camp in Nashville, TN! At the time, I was seriously considering pursuing music professionally, but I wanted to see if professionals in the industry thought that I had what it takes to do it. Although it was definitely nerve wracking, it was an amazing experience! The big showcase at the end of the first night of the camp consisted of the 11 best performers that attended, and I was chosen to perform! This gave me the opportunity to receive feedback and coaching from those incredible professionals and I was told that if I put in the work, I have what it takes to pursue music and performance, a dream of mine that always seemed just out of reach. I still can’t get over that! That was exactly the feedback I needed to move forward. Everything in my entire life led up to that point and time and I knew this was exactly what I was supposed to do with my life.
I soon returned home to Omaha, where I now continue to write songs and perform constantly. I have had incredible opportunities so far including opening for both The Young Fables and nationally known, Little Texas. I even competed in the Galaxy of Stars® Talent Search Competition 2018 at the Nebraska State Fair, winning the Mega Star (highest scoring contestant overall), Shining Star (the highest scoring contestant in star quality, “Shine Factor”), and Overall Vocalist (highest scoring individual or group – all age divisions) which includes a recording package in Nashville! In the fall of 2018, I released a music video of my single “Starstruck” and my first EP entitled “Joy Ride” which I recorded at Icon One Productions in Omaha. This is seriously a dream come true! “Joy Ride” has five songs I wrote at the very beginning of my journey. From writing about the loss of my papa (my grandpa) to writing a song about being “Starstruck” by a first love, these songs share the story of my life and journey so far.
It really has been a “Joy Ride” and I know this is only the beginning.
I can’t wait to see where I go next! I have had the help of so many talented musicians along the way, from friends who have believed in me since the very beginning like Clint, to new friends like my amazing co-producer, Todd Campbell, who both continue to help and support me, and neither of whom I can ever thank enough!
Although music is my passion, it’s more than that. It’s more than just a dream. I believe it’s a calling that’s been put on my heart and my life, and I’m choosing to answer even though it’s honestly terrifying. I know it’s worth it and is exactly what I’m supposed to do.
With every performance, I am reminded why I love music so much: It connects and reaches people in a unique and powerful way. This has led me to make it my mission to use every note and lyric of my music to offer people a message of hope and to ignite their inner joy and radiance. I want to inspire others to believe in themselves and to dream, but most importantly, to pursue those dreams!
Thank you again for all your support and for coming along this “Joy Ride” with me!
